When Mir came to Lucknow from Delhi and saw the then Nawab Asif-ud-Daula bathed in colors while playing Holi, he, too, was overwhelmed by the setting, and took to his pen, writing the Masnavi ‘Dar-Bayan-e-Holi’: Hole Khele Asif-ud-Daula Wazir Rang-e-Suhbat se ‘ajab hain Khurd-o-Piir Mir wrote another Masnavi titled ‘Dar-Jashn-e-Holi Aur Kat-KHudaii’ on the occasion of Asif-ud-Daula’s marriage: Aao Saaqi Bahaar phir aaii, Holi mein kitnii shaadiyaa.n laayi Jashn-e-Nau-roz-e-Hind Holi hai, Raag, Rang aur boli-Tholi hai Lakhnau Dilli se bhi bihtar hai ki kisuu dil kii laag iidhar hai Wajid Ali Shah Akhtar, the last Nawab of Awadh and a connoisseur & treasurer of Hindustani music, dance, and drama, not only played Holi but also brought alive the festival of colors in his poetry.
