Interesting Information on reKHtii
Rekhti is a unique form of Urdu poetry whose match is not found in any of the world’s languages. In it, male poets portray women’s emotions, circumstances, customs, habits, coquetries, and appearances in the very dialect and tone of women. Even in Hindi poetry, the tradition of women expressing their love is found, but Rekhti is still quite different. Originally, critics considered Rekhti to be an obscene form of poetry that was a product of the decline of civilization in society. But now some people opine that it is a one-of-a-kind feminist poetry in which male poets have glossed the feelings of women. Saadat Ali Khan Rangin (1756-1835) was said to be the inventor of Rekhti, but research has shown that Rekhti existed in the Deccan feminine language long before him. In Northern India, Inshallah Khan Insha and Jaan Sahib's names are synonymous with Rekhti. Jaan Sahib even used to take up a woman’s guise and recite his poetry in womanly fashion in Mushairas.
