کلیات کسی شخص کے تمام کلام (خواہ نظم خواہ نثر)کے مجموعے کے معنی میں یہ لفظ عام طور پر مذکر بولاجاتا ہے لیکن پلیٹس (Platts) اور’’آصفیہ‘‘ نے اسے مؤنث لکھا ہے۔’’اردو لغت، تاریخی اصول پر‘‘ میں اسے مذکر اور مؤنث دونوں لکھا ہے لیکن مؤنث کی کوئی سند نہیں دی ہے۔’’نور‘‘ میں اسے مذکر لکھا گیا ہے اور یہی مرجح معلوم ہوتا ہے۔ لیکن ادھر کچھ دنوں سے بعض لوگ اسے مؤنث بھی لکھ رہے ہیں۔ لہٰذا فی الحال اسے مختلف فیہ کہنا چاہئے۔ بہادر شاہ ظفر ؎ دیواں ظفر کا دیکھ کے کاتب ہیں کہہ رہے لکھیں کہاں تلک تری ہم کلیات کو لیکن کہا جاسکتاہے کہ ممکن ہے ظفر نے’’تری کلیات‘‘ لکھا ہو، اس زمانے میں’’ترے/تری‘‘ میں فرق لکھنے کی حد تک نہ تھا۔ یہ بات خالی از دلچسپی نہ ہوگی کہ تمام کلام (خواہ نظم خواہ نثر)کے مجموعے کے معنی میں یہ لفظ پرانی فارسی میں کہیں استعمال نہیں ہوا اور پرانے لغات میں ملتا بھی نہیں ہے۔ ’’دہخدا‘‘ میں ضرور درج ہے لیکن کوئی سند مذکور نہیں۔
