تشہیر اس لفظ کے معنی تو’’شہرت‘‘ ہی کے ہیں، لیکن اردو روزمرہ کے بموجب اس میں تھوڑا سا شائبہ برائی کا بھی ہے۔ یعنی’’تشہیر‘‘ یا تو بری بات یا چیزکی ہوتی ہے، یا ایسی بات کی جسے راز میں رکھنا مقصود تھا۔ یا پھر کسی بات کی شہرت برے طور پر کی جائے تو اسے ’’تشہیر‘‘ کہیں گے۔ مثلاً : مناسب:آج کل قرۃ العین حیدر کے ناول ’’چاندنی بیگم‘‘ کی بہت شہرت ہے۔ مناسب: عشق مجھ کو نہیں وحشت ہی سہی میری وحشت تری شہرت ہی سہی (غالب) مناسب: مخالفوں نے اس کی رشو ت خوری کی خوب تشہیر کی۔ مناسب: اس بات کو پوشیدہ رکھنا، اس کی تشہیر نہ ہونے دینا۔ مناسب: قاتل ہماری نعش کی تشہیر ہے ضرور آئندہ تا کوئی نہ کسی سے وفا کرے (سودا) نامناسب: اپنے سورماؤں کی خوب تشہیر کرو کہ دشمن کے حوصلے پست ہوں۔ مناسب: اپنے سورماؤں کو خوب شہرت دو ۔۔۔
