- بلحاظ صوت اُرْدو حروف تہجَی کا تیسواں، عربی کا چودھواں، فارسی کا سترھواں حرف، زبان کی نُوک کو نیچے کے اگلے دانتوں سے ملا کر ادا کیا جاتا ہے اور کچھ سیٹی سے مشابہ آواز نکلتی ہے، تلفّظ عربی میں صاد اور اُرْدو میں صواد ہے، کلمہ کے شروع میں بھی آتا ہے اور درمیان و آخر میں بھی، جیسے صابر، وصل، اخلاص، اسے صاد مہملہ اور صاد غیر منقوطہ بھی کہتے ہیں، جمل کے حساب سے نوے (۹۰) کے عدد کا قائم مقام، یہ عربی الاصل الفاظ میں آتا ہے، جس وقت آدھا (ٖص) صاد یعنی بغیر دائرہ لکھتے ہیں تو وہ علامت صحیح یا منظوری خیال کی جاتی ہے نیز’’صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم‘‘ کے مخفف کے طور پر حضورؐ کے اسمِ گرامی کے اوپر لکھتے ہیں، اُستاد اچھے شعر پر ص دیتا ہے، شعرا آن٘کھ سے تشبیہ دیتے ہیں
