جمعیت بمعنی ’’گروہ، بھیڑ‘‘۔ ملحوظ رہے کہ یہ لفظ بروزن مفعولن (جم+عی+یت) ہے۔ اقبال ؎ آہ جب گلشن کی جمعیت پریشاں ہوچکی پھول کو باد بہاری کا پیام آیا تو کیا بعض لوگ ’’جمیعت‘‘ بروزن فعولن کہتے ہیں۔ یہ غالباً ’’جمیعا‘‘(بمعنی ’’پورا پورا‘‘) کی غلط فہمی سے بنایا گیا ہے۔ بول چال میں شاید’’جمیعت‘‘ بروزن فعولن چل جائے لیکن تحریر میں اس سے احتراز واجب ہے۔
