برس/برسوں؛ دن/دنوں؛روز/روزوں؛ سال/سالوں ’’برس‘‘ اور’’ دن‘‘ کی جمع کم سے کم استعمال ہو تو بہتر ہے: (۱) نامناسب: میں یہاں چار برسوں سے آتا جاتا ہوں۔ (۲)مناسب: میں یہاں چار برس سے آتا جاتا ہوں۔ (۳) نامناسب: میں نے انھیں کئی دنوں بعد دیکھا۔ (۴)مناسب: میں نے انھیں کئی دن بعد دیکھا۔ اور اگر ’’برس‘‘،’’ دن‘‘، ’’روز‘‘، ’’سال‘‘ کے بعد حرف جار ہو تو جمع کا استعمال بالکل غلط اور غیر فصیح ہے: (۱)غلط اور غیر فصیح: بیس برسوں کے بعد ہم ملے۔ صحیح اور فصیح:بیس برس بعد ہم ملے۔ (۲) غلط اور غیر فصیح:وہاں تو چار دنوں ہی میں صفایا ہو گیا۔ صحیح اور فصیح:وہاں تو چار دن ہی میں صفایا ہو گیا۔ ’’روز‘‘ کی جمع ’’روزوں‘‘ اب بہت کم بولی جاتی ہے، چاہے جس صورت حال میں ہو۔ غلط اور غیر فصیح: آج یہاں کئی روزوں سے پانی نہیں برسا۔ صحیح اور فصیح:آج یہاں کئی روز سے۔۔۔ غلط اور غیر فصیح: ان روزوں مجھ پر بڑی مشکل ہے۔ صحیح اور فصیح:ان دنوں۔۔۔ ’’سال‘‘ کی جمع ’’سالوں‘‘ میں پہلوے ذم واضح ہے، اس لئے اسے بالکل نہ برتا جائے۔
