اقربا بمعنی’’عزیزدار، رشتہ دار‘‘، اصل عربی میں اول مفتوح، سوم مکسور، اور ہمزہ کے ساتھ ’’اقرباء‘‘ ہے۔ لیکن اردو میں اول و سوم مفتوح کے ساتھ انھیں معنی میں مستعمل ہے۔ اردو کے جو لوگ سوم مفتوح کے ساتھ تلفظ کوغلط قراردیتے ہیں وہ خود غلطی پرہیں۔ ’’اقارب‘‘ بھی’’اقربا‘‘ کے معنی میں اردو میں ہے۔ لیکن ’’اقربا‘‘ کو زیادہ ترقریبی عزیزوں کے لئے برتتے ہیں اور’’اقارب‘‘ عمومی مفہوم میں رشتہ داروں کے لئے۔ اردو میں’’عزیز و اقارب‘‘ زیادہ مستعمل ہے۔
