Interesting Information on rasan

In Persian, the word for rope is "Rasan". In Arabic, its used in the sense of a hackamore. In Urdu poetry and literature, it is mostly seen alongside the word ‘daar’ in the form of ‘daar-o-rasan’, meaning the rope and the scaffold used for hanging. But in a couplet of Mushafi’s, the word Rasan is used for the rope on which acrobats walk and perform their tricks. The expression ‘daar-o-rasan’, is very common in both classical and modern poetry as a metaphor against oppression and protest. A couplet of the famous London-based poetess Zahra Nigah reads: jiinaa hai to jii le.nge ba-har-taur divaane kis baat kaa Gam hai rasan-o-daar ke hote The same rope or ‘Rasan’ when used to hang clothes is called "algani" or a clothesline rope. In contemporary ghazals, algani, too, has become a feminist metaphor and has started appearing with the word rasan. A poetess who composed a Ghazal in the rhyme and refrain of Ghalib’s famous Ghazal wrote: Bahut hai bojh kap.Don ka huii hai algani duhrii Na kiil ukhde, na wo tuute, rasan kii aazmaish hai Tabassum Azmi
