قریب المرگ بعض لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ ’’مرگ‘‘ فارسی لفظ ہے، اس پرعربی کا الف لگا کر’’قریب المرگ‘‘ بنانا درست نہیں۔ بے شک یہ لفظ عربی نہیں ہے، اگر عربی میں لایا جائے تو صحیح نہ ہوگا۔ لیکن اردو کی حد تک ’’قریب‘‘ اور’’مرگ‘‘ دونوں اردو کے لفظ ہیں۔ لہٰذا یہاں اردو والے اپنا تصرف کرسکتے ہیں۔ الف لام کے بغیراور الف لام کے ساتھ عربی فارسی الفاظ کو اردو میں مرکب کرنے کی روایت پرانی ہے۔ مثلاً : گلبدن، مسیحا لب، سیماب صفت، مفلوک الحال، دلاورالدولہ، نمک حرام، جلوہ گاہ، زن جلب، وغیرہ۔ اس طرح ’’قریب المرگ‘‘ میں کوئی عیب نہیں، لیکن ’’قریب الموت‘‘ میں ہے، کیونکہ اگرچہ یہاں دونوں لفظ عربی ہیں، لیکن یہ مرکب اردو کے روز مرہ میں شامل نہیں ہے۔
