خدا خانہ یہ لفظ فارسی میں نہیں ہے، لیکن ’’خانۂ خدا‘‘ وہاں مستعمل ہے، چندربھان برہمن ؎ ببیں کرامت بت خانۂ مرا اے شیخ کہ چوں خراب شود خانۂ خدا گردد میر محمد علی رائج، استاد سیالکوٹی مل وارستہ ؎ مبر بہ کلبۂ درویش بے ادب نعلین خدائے خانہ ببیں خانۂ خدا شدہ است اردو کے پرانے لغات میں، بلکہ ’’نور اللغات‘‘ میں بھی’’خدا خانہ‘‘ نہیں ملتا۔ ’’اردو لغت، تاریخی اصول پر‘‘ میں اس کا اندراج نوح ناروی اور جمیل مظہری کے حوالے سے ہے؎ نوح ناروی ؎ کہا تھا اے دل نا فہم و ناداں تجھ سے یہ کس نے خدا خانے کی حرمت کو صنم خانے میں رکھ دینا جمیل مظہری ؎ اک خدا خانہ کہ کوشش پہ بھی جھکتا نہیں سر اک صنم خانہ کہ دل خود ہی جھکا جاتا ہے دیکھئے، ’’ماتم خانہ‘‘۔
