حفاظت بمعنی’’حفظ‘‘، یہ لفظ عربی میں نہیں ہے۔ اغلب ہے کہ فارسی میں عربی مصدر’’حفاظ‘‘ (اول مکسور) سے بنا لیا گیا ہو۔ لیکن فارسی میں بھی یہ بہت کمیاب ہے۔’’آنند راج‘‘ اور ’’غیاث‘‘ میں یہ درج ہی نہیں ہے۔’’دہخدا‘‘ میں درج ہے، لیکن صرف ایک سند دی گئی ہے۔ چونکہ وہ سند نظامی کی ہے اس لئے اندازہ ہوتا ہے کہ فارسی میں یہ لفظ بہت دن سے ہے۔’’اردو لغت، تاریخی اصول پر‘‘ میں اسے عربی لکھا ہے اور اس کا مادہ ح ف ظ بتایا گیا ہے۔ ظاہر ہے کہ یہ درست نہیں۔ لیکن یہ لفظ اردو کی حد تک بالکل صحیح و فصیح ہے۔ بس اتنا ہے کہ اسے عربی نہ قیاس کیا جائے۔
