غشی بعض لوگوں کا کہنا ہے کہ عربی میں ’’غش‘‘ ہے، ’’غشی‘‘ نہیں ہے، لہٰذا اردو میں بھی’’غش‘‘ ہونا چاہئے، ’’غشی‘‘ غلط ہے۔ لیکن ظاہر ہے کہ ہمیں عربی سے مطلب نہیں، جو اردو میں رائج ہے اردو کے لئے وہی صحیح ہے۔ اردو میں’’غش آنا‘‘ اور ’’غشی آنا/ طاری ہونا‘‘ دونوں مستعمل ہیں، اور دونوں کے معنی قریب قریب یکساں ہیں، یعنی ’’بے ہوش ہونا/بے ہوشی آنا، بے ہوشی چھانا‘‘۔ انھیں معنی میں’’غش کھانا/لانا‘‘ اور اس طرح کے کئی محاوراتی فقرے ہیں۔ لیکن ’’غش ہونا‘‘، بمعنی ’’کسی پر عاشق ہونا، کسی پر شیدا ہونا‘‘ بھی مستعمل ہے۔ میر ؎ ہمیں غش آگیا تھا وہ بدن دیکھ بڑی کلول ٹلی ہے جان پر سے کیا ہوسکے کسی سے علاج اپنا شیفتہ اس گل پہ غش ہیں جس میں محبت کی بو نہیں (مصطفیٰ خاں شیفتہ) بے سبب تو نے سنبھالا نہیں ہاتھوں سے اسے غش ہے عارض کی صفائی پہ مقرر سہرا (اکبر الٰہ آبادی) شبلی نعمانی، فقرہ: ان پر غشی طاری تھی۔ نذیر احمد، فقرہ: موسیؑ غش کھاکر گر پڑے۔ محفل سے اٹھانے کا جب قصد کیا اس نے دانستہ میں غش لایا تزویر اسے کہتے ہیں (ناسخ)
