بغداد سے جنوب کی طرف تقریباً پچپن میل کے فاصلہ پر ایک چوکور کن٘واں جس کا قطر تین فٹ کے قریب ہے اس کنویں کے متعلق کہا جاتا ہے کہ اس میں ہاروت و ماروت الٹے لٹکے ہوئے ہے ہیں اور قیامت تک لٹکے رہیں گے علمائے یہود کا کہنا کے کہ زمین پر قیام کے دوران ہاروت اور ماروت کی نگاہ ایک خوبصورت عورت زہرہ پر پڑی اور وہ اس کی قربت کے طلب گار ہوئے زہرہ کے کہنے پر انھوں نے شراب خوری، بت پرستی اور قتل و غارت تک سے گریز نہ کیا یہاں تک کہ اسم اعظم بھی (جس کی ممانعت تھی) زہرہ کو سکھا دیا زہرہ اسم اعظم کی برکت سے آسمان پر چلی گئی اور ہاروت ماروت خدا کے غضب میں مبتلا ہو کر چاہ بابل میں قید ہوئے، قرآن پاک میں ہاروت و ماروت کا نام آیا ہے مگر مذکورہ قصے کی طرف کوئی اشارہ موجود نہیں
