Interesting Information on baraamda

The word 'Baraamada' or Porch, is widely known. But less known is the fact that it is originally derived from Portuguese- in which it is written as Verandah- and got incorporated in Urdu around the start of the 18th century. Later it became a part of UK English in which it is written as Veranda. According to Lexico Oxford and Douglas R. Harper (an American lexicographer and author of the Online Etymology Dictionary), this word entered French after its growing use in UK English. The Persian word 'Yaar', which means a friend, has also made its place in the Oxford Dictionary. Its first use in UK English was seen around 1963.
